Disney Cruise Line 2026 Updates: Disney Believe, New Ships & What’s Coming Next

Disney Cruise Line is having a very busy August.
After revealing major Disney Cruise Line news at D23 2026, including our first real look at the Disney Believe and an entirely new class of ships beginning in 2029, Disney is already teasing another announcement.
On August 24, Disney Cruise Line and Disney Parks shared a mysterious set of coordinates along with one very interesting message:
“Let’s coordinate to meet back up tomorrow for a big announcement…”
So what is Disney announcing on August 25?
We don’t know yet, and I’m not going to pretend we do.
But with the Disney Believe scheduled to begin sailing in late 2027 and its itineraries still unreleased, the timing certainly has Disney Cruise Line fans paying attention.
Here’s everything Disney has announced so far in 2026, what we know about the August 25 teaser, and what travelers should be watching next.
On August 24, Disney Cruise Line and Disney Parks shared a teaser featuring a Disney cruise ship, a Mickey-shaped globe and six mysterious latitude coordinates.
The caption said, “Let’s coordinate to meet back up tomorrow for a big announcement…”
The word coordinate is clearly doing some work here.
Disney has not yet explained what the coordinates represent or confirmed what will be announced on August 25.
Could it involve new Disney Cruise Line destinations? New itineraries? The Disney Believe? Something connecting Disney Parks and Disney Cruise Line?
Right now, those are questions, not answers.

Disney Believe Will Begin Sailing in Late 2027
The biggest near-term Disney Cruise Line announcement is the Disney Believe.
Disney has officially confirmed that the Disney Believe will begin sailing in late 2027.
The Disney Believe will be the fourth ship in the Wish class, joining:
Disney Wish
Disney Treasure
Disney Destiny
Disney Believe
That means the Believe will share some of the design DNA of Disney's newer ships while still having its own identity, characters, spaces and entertainment.
And after D23 2026, we finally know a lot more about what that identity will look like.
When Can You Book the Disney Believe?
If the Disney Believe is already on your Disney cruise wish list, you're probably wondering when you can actually book it.
Disney has confirmed that the Disney Believe will begin sailing in late 2027, but as of August 17, 2026, Disney has not yet released the ship's itineraries or specific booking dates.
When Disney opens reservations for new itineraries and ships, Castaway Club members typically receive early booking access based on their membership tier:
Pearl Castaway Club Members: at least 4 days before the general public
Platinum Castaway Club Members: at least 3 days before the general public
Gold Castaway Club Members: at least 2 days before the general public
Silver Castaway Club Members: at least 1 day before the general public
First-Time Disney Cruise Guests: when booking opens to the general public
Your Castaway Club level is based on the number of eligible Disney cruises you've completed. Silver begins after your first sailing, Gold after 5, Platinum after 10 and Pearl after 25.

The Disney Believe Will Have a Moana-Inspired Grand Hall
One of the things I love about Disney's newer ships is that each one has its own personality.
For the Disney Believe, the heart of the ship will be inspired by Moana.
Disney revealed that the Grand Hall will capture the optimistic spirit of exploration from the Moana films.
A bronze statue of Moana with Pua and Heihei will be a focal point of the space, and the design will draw inspiration from the South Pacific.
The Grand Hall on Disney's Wish-class ships isn't simply a lobby. It's the central gathering place of the ship and one of the first things you experience when you walk onboard.
Choosing Moana gives us our first real glimpse into the personality Disney is creating for the Believe.
Woody and Buzz Are Going on the Disney Believe
Disney also revealed the characters that will appear on the stern of the Disney Believe.
Woody and Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story will be on the back of the ship.
The larger-than-life sculptures will show Woody and Buzz working together to write the ship's name across the stern using giant yellow crayons.
Instead of the traditional script used for Disney Cruise Line ship names, Woody and Buzz will create playful lettering inspired by Toy Story.
It's such a Disney detail, and exactly the kind of thing kids will notice immediately.
Tinker Bell Is Going on the Bow
There's another Disney character joining the Believe.
Tinker Bell will appear in the decorative artwork on the ship's bow.
Disney says she'll be depicted as she appeared in the original 1953 Peter Pan, surrounded by silhouettes of Peter, Wendy, Captain Hook and other characters flying through the design.
Between Moana in the Grand Hall, Woody and Buzz on the stern and Tinker Bell on the bow, Disney is already giving the Believe a very different personality from her sister ships.
What Movies Will Be Featured on the Disney Believe?
Disney hasn't revealed every restaurant, lounge, kids club, show or attraction yet.
But it has confirmed that experiences aboard the Disney Believe will draw inspiration from several beloved Disney stories, including:
Encanto
Frozen
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Moana
The Little Mermaid
And that's something important to remember if you're already thinking, "We need to wait for this ship!"
We still don't know everything that's going to be onboard.
Disney will reveal considerably more about the Disney Believe between now and its first sailing in late 2027.
Is the Disney Believe the Same as the Disney Wish?
No, but they're related.
The Disney Believe will be the fourth ship in Disney Cruise Line's Wish class.
That means it belongs to the same family as the Disney Wish, Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny.
However, Disney intentionally gives each ship its own storytelling and personality.
Think of them as sisters, not twins.
If you've sailed on the Disney Wish, that doesn't mean you've essentially experienced the Treasure, Destiny or Believe.
They can share an underlying ship design while offering different restaurants, lounges, entertainment, characters and immersive Disney experiences.
And that's one reason I don't recommend choosing a Disney cruise based solely on which ship is newest.
The best Disney ship depends on who is traveling and what kind of vacation you want.
Disney Is Creating an Entirely New Class of Cruise Ships
This may actually be the biggest long-term Disney Cruise Line announcement from D23.
After the Disney Believe, Disney is changing direction.
Disney revealed the first look at an entirely new class of Disney Cruise Line ships.
The first ships in this new class are expected to begin arriving in 2029, with three ships planned.
These won't simply be another version of the Disney Wish.
They're being designed as an entirely new class.
The New Disney Ships Will Be Smaller Than the Wish Class
This is one of the D23 details that really caught my attention as a travel advisor.
Disney says the new ships will fall between its classic ships and its newest ships in size.
In other words:
Bigger than the Disney Wonder, but smaller than the Disney Wish.
And I actually think that's very interesting.
Bigger isn't automatically better when it comes to cruising.
Some families love huge ships packed with restaurants, entertainment and activities.
Other travelers prefer ships that are easier to navigate and feel a little more intimate.
Disney specifically said this new size could give Disney Cruise Line more flexibility to visit new places and reach new audiences around the world.
And that is something I will be watching closely.
Could Disney Cruise Line Be Going to More Destinations?
Potentially.
Disney hasn't announced the itineraries for these new ships yet, so I'm not going to start drawing Mickey ears around random ports on a map.
But Disney specifically talked about the new ships creating opportunities to visit new places.
That's significant.
Smaller ships can sometimes access destinations and ports that aren't practical for larger vessels.
So while we don't know where these ships will sail yet, the possibility of new Disney Cruise Line destinations may ultimately be one of the most exciting parts of this announcement.
How Many Disney Cruise Ships Are There?
Disney Cruise Line currently sails eight ships:

The Disney Believe will join the fleet in late 2027.
Disney plans to expand the Disney Cruise Line fleet to a total of 13 ships over the coming years.
That's a huge change for a cruise line that had only four ships for many years.
And for travelers, it means we'll eventually have far more Disney cruise options to compare.
Should You Wait for the Disney Believe?
Now we get to the question I know families are going to ask:
Should we wait for the Disney Believe?
My answer?
It depends.
If you're considering a Disney cruise in 2026 or early 2027, I would not automatically postpone your vacation just because the Disney Believe is coming.
If your kids absolutely love Moana, Toy Story, Encanto or some of the other stories Disney has announced for the ship, waiting may be worth considering.
If you're a repeat Disney cruiser who loves experiencing each new ship, absolutely put the Believe on your list.
But if this is your family's first Disney cruise, I wouldn't automatically wait.
There are already several very different Disney ships and itineraries available.
And sometimes one of Disney's older ships may actually be the better choice for your family depending on the itinerary, sailing length, departure port and price.
Newest doesn't automatically mean best.
Should You Wait Until 2029 for Disney's New Ships?
For most families?
No.
2029 is a long time to postpone a vacation simply because Disney has something new coming.
And here's the thing about Disney:
There is almost always going to be something new coming.
Instead, I'd look at what your family wants from a Disney cruise now.
Do you want the ship itself to be the destination?
Do you care more about the ports?
Do you want to visit Disney Castaway Cay or Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point?
Are you traveling with little kids, teenagers, adults or grandparents?
Do you want to try a shorter Disney cruise first, or are you ready for a longer itinerary?
Where do you want to sail from?
Those answers matter much more than simply choosing the newest ship.
Which Disney Cruise Ship Is Best?
This is becoming a harder question to answer.
And that's actually a good thing.
There isn't one Disney cruise ship that's automatically "the best."
The right ship depends on:
Who is traveling
Your children's ages
Your preferred itinerary
How many nights you want to cruise
Where you want to sail from
Your budget
Which Disney characters and stories your family loves
Whether you prefer a larger or smaller ship
Whether the ship or destination is more important to you
A family with preschoolers taking its first Disney cruise may need something completely different from a family traveling with teenagers.
Grandparents taking the entire family on a multigenerational Disney cruise may have completely different priorities.
That's why I look at the ship and itinerary together.
What Do Disney’s 2026 Announcements Mean for Disney Cruise Line?
The biggest takeaway from D23 isn't simply that another Disney ship is coming.
It's that Disney Cruise Line is becoming a much larger and more diverse cruise line.
The Disney Believe arrives in late 2027.
An entirely new class of Disney ships begins arriving in 2029.
The fleet is eventually expanding to 13 ships.
And Disney is openly talking about the possibilities these differently sized ships create for visiting new destinations.
That's exciting.
But it also means planning a Disney cruise is becoming more complicated.
There was a time when choosing a Disney ship was fairly simple.
