10-DAY UK ITINERARY
England and Scotland Without Rushing
Ten days creates room for London, a meaningful second stop and Scotland—if the route follows the map instead of fighting it.
CLASSIC ROUTE: LONDON, BATH OR THE COTSWOLDS, AND EDINBURGH
Spend four nights in London, two nights in Bath or the Cotswolds and three nights in Edinburgh. Use rail between the major cities and planned transportation for the countryside.
RAIL ROUTE: LONDON, YORK AND EDINBURGH
This is one of the UK’s easiest multi-city itineraries. London, York and Edinburgh sit on the same primary rail line, making the route logical for travelers interested in history, museums and walkable city centers.
SCOTLAND-FOCUSED ROUTE: LONDON, EDINBURGH AND THE HIGHLANDS
Spend fewer nights changing English bases and more time in Scotland. Rail works from London to Edinburgh; the Highland portion should be arranged around the exact locations and experiences selected.
SUGGESTED PACING
Days 1–4 — London with major sights, neighborhoods, theater and an optional day trip.
Days 5–6 — Bath, the Cotswolds or York.
Days 7–9 — Edinburgh, with a focused Scotland experience if desired.
Day 10 — Departure.
WHERE TRAINS WORK BEST
Trains are excellent between London, York and Edinburgh. Bath is also rail-friendly. Rural Cotswolds villages, the Highlands and the Isle of Skye require touring, a rental car or private transportation.
